With support from the TIMed-Center of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, and in collaboration with Otto-Bock Healthcare GmbH, we investigate how well signals from inertial sensors correlate. This project is a stepping stone to our goal to use small, affordable inertial movement sensors to quantitatively assess the risk of falls in the elderly.
This research is conducted in collaboration with the Sportinstitut Jansenberger. Since falls is one of the leading causes of death in the elderly, and since postural stability is closely related to the ability to live independently, this important topic is also closely integrated in the training of our Master-students at the Dept. of Medical Engineering.
